What is your goal, and how can we find it?

What is your goal in life? Maybe its to start a new business or connect with friends that you haven’t been able to see in the past due to the restrictions of the pandemic (either in person or over Zoom), but for many of us we looking to create the best version of ourselves through health and fitness.

But what does that really mean? For people out there, they have a goal to get into great shape physically, to have a great physique or a nice beach bod that they can show off, while others want to be able to compete at the highest level, be it in sports or weight lifting or a number of other physically demanding things that require them to be able to perform at there best day in and day out, and there are people whose goal with health and fitness is just that, to be healthy and fit and to have an optimal body to live the healthiest life that they can and be that way for a long time.

Personally, for me the goal is to live life without the restraints of not being able to do something I want to because I physically cant. Things like going for long hikes or doing physical activities with family to being able to play sports and not be winded or “gassed” after mere minutes.

While considering what your optimal fitness destination is, you can do this activity, draw a triangle with 3 equal sides. And at each point put these words: Aesthetics, Performance, Longevity. Now draw a circle (I have mine in the attached pictures).

As you can see with my circle (more of an oval but you get the picture), my goal currently like I said above is to be able to live my healthiest life while still being able to perform in high intensity things like hockey or running or other activities. Aesthetics aren’t top priority at the moment but that could change in the future.

That being said the circle isn’t permanent, it can be changed around if you feel that you would like to adjust in the future, just know that if you are changing the focus of your fitness lifestyle that you may need to change other parts of your life. For example, if you change your goal from performance dominated to more an aesthetic lifestyle then there is a chance that you will see some performance loss since calories will be lower so you may have less in the tank when your exercising.

Remember that your life is meant to be enjoyed and that health and fitness is supposed to be a way to increase your overall quality of life, so if you are unsure about where to start in your fitness journey, I would recommend that you take the Triangle of Awareness test. It will give you an initial North Star and a goal to work towards, but don’t be afraid to change it up or have a conversation if you feel somethings not working like you want it to.

If you made it this far thanks for reading, I appreciate it. In this world of Nutrition Coaching, it can be hard to find your way, and hopefully this can help you try and figure out the best for you, because you deserve it.

If you want to chat about this or any other health and fitness things you can email me: kylecroftnutritioncoaching@gmail.com and I would be happy to talk to you there.

Thanks.
